Many agreed that it is easy to become engrossed whilst playing these games (77 percent), whilst 28 percent reported experiencing a ‘binge’ whilst playing online casino games. Across the online casino games, males were more likely to have spent money on all categories of online casino games in the last 4 weeks than females, apart from virtual roulette, where females were more likely to have spent money on this game in the last 4 weeks. Predominantly, across online casino games, those that had spent money on online casino games in the last 4 weeks were aged 25 to 34 years old. It is important to note that the introduction of a minimum speed for other casino products is not made in isolation but as part of a package of measures aimed at reducing risk from online gambling. This includes the proposals for financial risk checks which were consulted on at the same time as these changes. We are mindful that there may be displacement of gambling activity caused by the introduction of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s (DCMS) stake cap for slots, or from changes introduced by these game design requirements. It is important to understand the cumulative effect of all these changes in order to assess the impact on casino games.
