Seguro que en más de una ocasión te ha surgido la duda de si necesitas presentar obligatoriamente una traducción jurada original o si te vale con una copia. Características de los documentos
Las características que deben cumplir los documentos que se presenten en estas oficinas son concretamente las siguientes:
1.1 Deben ser documentos originales o copias certificadas por el mismo organismo que expidió el documento original.
1.2 Excepto en los casos en los que existe un Convenio que permita que los documentos en cuestión no tengan que estar legalizados, todos los documentos públicos extranjeros se deben legalizar previamente. La legalización se hará por vía diplomática o, si el Estado forma parte del Convenio de la Haya de 1961, deben rubricarse con la Apostilla de la Haya.
1.3 Se deben traducir al castellano en base al artículo 36.1 de la Ley 30/1992, de 26 de noviembre, de Régimen Jurídico de las Administraciones Públicas y del Procedimiento Común.

Who can make the translations for the document to be valid?
In Spain, in order for a translation to be considered official, and thus valid to be submitted to any official body of the Spanish Administration, it must be done by one of the following:
A sworn translator-interpreter appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
A Spanish diplomatic or consular representation abroad (and it must be subsequently legalized by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in order to be presented to the Spanish Administration).
A diplomatic or consular representation in Spain of the country that issued the document (which must be subsequently legalized or apostilled in the sense of section 1.2).
It should also be noted that some States party to the 1961 Hague Convention do not apostille translations by sworn translators (including Spain) as they consider them to be official documents but not of a public but of a private nature. However, sworn translations made by local translators abroad, even if legalized, may be rejected by some bodies of the Spanish Administration, since they may require an official translation in accordance with paragraphs 1.1 - 1.3.
Therefore, we recommend that you check beforehand with the body or institution to which you must submit the sworn translation whether it accepts the form in which the translation has been legalized.
